We always get this question about how we started and what we did to become who we are.
Well, initially we were always a martial arts studio that primarily focused on kids & adult martial arts.
That was great, and I still enjoy it, however, I realized it was necessary for us to actually attract a different market that wanted more fitness and less self defense training.
My Martial Arts Background
With that said, I have over 25 years of martial arts experience.
I was that kid watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at 9 and 10 years old and wanting to do what they did.
So, what was a parent to do...?
Enroll me in martial arts classes for my birthday!
Literally 25 years later, I'm still doing it and haven't looked back.
In this journey I competed as an amateur and professional Sport Karate Competitor locally and nationally on a circuit called NASKA -- the #1 Sport Karate organization in America.
I did that for about 10+ years until I realized that I needed to focus on college.
Anyways, during my career as a Martial Arts Sports Athlete, I won several tournaments and awards, including a World Title in 2001 as the #1 rated fighter in the United States.
Now, what you don't know about is the amount of training and cross-training I did to compete at a high level.
Just off the top of my head, I remember going to a 1st Bank building in Lakewood, CO and going in the fire exit, and running those stairs. I believe it was about 5 or 6 stories, and I would run up the stairs, skipping every other, than run down, followed by about 2 - 3 minutes of jump rope.
I did that, and other crazy and explosive exercises / workouts, throughout my martial arts competition career.
So, fitness and martial arts have always been a passion of mine.
Fast forward to about 2008, where I make my dream a reality and open my first martial arts studio.
I was 27 years old. Young, ambitious, and the fear of God in my eyes. I was scared for what I did, but ecstatic for what I did.
Anyways, when I started to teach sessions in my studio, we primarily focused on kids & adult martial arts. However, we were missing another element -- adult fitness.
That's where I began to implement a kickboxing style program that involved bag work. And, eventually things began to unfold -- until Summit Fit Dojo was formed.
Summit Fit Dojo was not the initial goal, but was something that evolved as my interest in fitness grew even more.
The Evolution Of Summit Fit Dojo
We primarily focused on doing fitness bootcamps, since they were all the craze -- but we slowly shifted to what we are now, a personal training fitness studio.
Summit Fit Dojo is now part of the FitRanX system, which is the only fitness ranking system of it's kind. See, with FitRanX, you now have goals that can be tracked based on your ability to perform a fitness test for a given level -- just like martial arts.
When I learned about FitRanX, I needed to jump on board with this!
This was so different and unique, and I thought it was a game changer in my business.
Why I Do What I Do?
Well, the best way for me to share this is to simply say that I LOVE helping others out. I've always had a desire to help others... in anything. Fitness, martial arts, business, personal, or just because -- I love it.
On top of that, I enjoy being active. I'm that person that loves the outdoors, pushes the limits on certain activities, and keep pushing myself to always be better.
So, why not grow a love and passion for fitness!
As I got better as a trainer and started to see the improvements my clients were getting, I started to realize we had something special going on at Summit Fit Dojo.
On top of the culture we have created and the people that follow us, train with us, and continue to train with us makes Summit Fit Dojo a true fitness family.
